Academic Statement of Purpose
Please respond to the following questions in 500 words, typed in 12-point font and double-spaced:
Please describe your preparation and motivation for graduate study, including your academic, research and work background and how the Georgetown program of interest aligns with your preparation and experience.
- How have you demonstrated your interest in the intersection of climate, environment, and health?
- Why do you want to pursue this particular degree at Georgetown University?
- What are your career goals after completing the MS-CEH program?
Video Statement
Video Guidelines:
- Appear in person, speaking directly to the camera.
- Length: 1 to 2 minutes
- Use any device, ensuring clear audio and visuals; a well-lit and quiet environment is recommended.
- Submit your video as a file upload through the application portal.
Video Prompts:
- Share a complex problem you’ve encountered at the intersection of climate, environment, and health. Why is it important to you?
- How does this challenge relate to your interests within CEH? How do you hope to deepen your focus through this program?
Writing Sample
Submit a professional or academic writing sample of no more than 5 pages. Acceptable formats include:
- Research or academic papers
- Policy briefs
- Publications
- White papers
Excerpts from longer works (e.g., theses or dissertations) are acceptable.
Academic Transcripts
Applicants must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent international degree. Applicants are required to upload to the application system copies of official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended. Visit the Office of Graduate Admission’s Application Information page for additional details and FAQs.
Applicants must upload transcripts from:
- All undergraduate and graduate institutions attended where more than 15 credits were completed
- Any institution where program prerequisites were completed (regardless of credit count)
For international applicants: applicants who attended non-U.S. institutions must submit a transcript evaluation. Click here for more information on international application components.
We consider these uploaded transcripts to be “unofficial.” Applicants who receive an offer of admission will be required at that time to submit official final transcripts (transcripts that have been submitted directly to Georgetown University by the institution) for verification prior to enrolling.
CV or Resume
Submit a current CV or resume (recommended length: 1–2 pages) that reflects the experience listed in your application.
Letters of Recommendation
- Two letters of recommendation are required and preferred.
- A third optional recommender may be added.
- Recommenders should be individuals with an academic or professional relationship to you—preferably faculty, academic advisors, or current supervisors. Former supervisors or high-level clients are also acceptable.
- Letters from family members, colleagues, or peers are not permitted.
We seek insight into your academic or professional performance, as well as your leadership and management potential.
International Application Components
Applicants with international credentials should be prepared to submit the following:
- Non-U.S. College or University Academic Records. Transcripts must be submitted from all postsecondary institutions attended outside the United States.
- World Education Services (WES) ICAP evaluations or any NACES-accredited credential evaluation. Upload the evaluation directly to the application. If the evaluation does not include copies of the original transcripts, upload both the transcripts and the evaluation as a single PDF.
- Demonstration of English Language Proficiency
All applicants are required to demonstrate a level of proficiency in the English language sufficient to meet the admission requirement. This can be demonstrated by:- Earning a bachelor’s or advanced degree from a university or accredited institution of higher education where English was the primary language of instruction, or
- Submitting official test scores of either:
- TOEFL: Minimum score of 100
- IELTS: Minimum score of 7.5
(Scores must be from tests taken within the last 24 months.)
- The Office of Admissions reserves the right to request additional proof of English language proficiency.
