Vincent Turbat

Vincent Turbat began his career in 1972 as a junior lecturer and researcher in economics at the University of Saint-Étienne in France. Over the next 19 years, he held positions at various French universities, dividing his time between teaching and research, primarily in macroeconomics, growth and development, and health economics.

In 1991, he joined the World Bank as a health economist, where he was responsible for designing and delivering learning programs in areas such as health financing, health sector reform, pharmaceuticals, and HIV/AIDS prevention and care. In 1996, he transitioned to the operational sector of the World Bank, first serving in East Asia and later in Africa. From 2003 to 2006, he was the World Bank Country Manager for Niger.

After retiring from the World Bank in 2010, he returned to academia as a faculty member at Georgetown University, combining teaching, research, and consulting. He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Global Health at Georgetown’s School of Health, where he teaches courses in Health Economics; Health Financing; Planning, Costing and Budgeting Health Projects; and Global Health.

Dr. Turbat holds a Ph.D. in Economics (with highest honors) from the University of Aix-Marseille II (1977), a Diplôme d'Études Supérieures (with honors) from the University of Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne (1972), and a master’s degree in economics (with honors) from the University of Orléans (1970). His research focuses on healthcare financing and digital health. A passionate world traveler, he has visited 111 countries.
